The Tony Blair Sports Foundation has welcomed a Tyne & Wear firm which has become one of the first to sign up to be a Friend of the Foundation.

Washington-based Abacus Design and Fabrication Ltd, which makes and supplies a wide range of changing room and cloakroom furniture and fittings, storage and shelving, has pledged to back the Foundation for the next two years.

Managing Director, Keith Purvis, said: "After attending the first annual school indoor tennis competition, I was impressed with the whole concept of the Tony Blair Sports Foundation. Young people need to be encouraged to develop an interest in sporting activities rather than PC's and consoles.

The Tony Blair Sports Foundation motivates individuals to become positive role models for young people and promotes sport and exercise.

As a local business, with an interest in the sports and leisure industry I like the idea of promoting sports and positive role models and dedcided to do my bit to support the region which has supported my business."
