Steve Cram MBE
Steve Cram is one of the world's most successful middle distance athletes of all time, his career spanned three decades since appearing as a 17 year old at the Commonwealth Games in 1978. Steve's many achievements included six Gold Medals at Commonwealth, European and World Championships and a Silver Medal at Olympic Games in 1984.The following year he broke World Records at 1500m, 2000m, and the Mile all within 19 days; the latter lasting almost 9 years. In 1983 he was voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year as well as graduating from Northumbria University with a BA Hons in Sports Studies.
Since retiring from competitive athletics Steve has become a very successful television commentator, first with Eurosport and then with Channel 4 before joining the BBC as chief athletics commentator Steve has co-presented Summer and Winter Olympic Games but it was probably his commentary of Kelly Holmes double Gold in Athens which proves so memorable.
Steve continues to maintain close links with developments across the board in the sports arena and in particular with performance sport at the highest level. In May 2000, he was appointed Chairman of the English Institute of Sport which represents a nationwide network of world class support services designed to foster the talents of our elite athletes.
